82nd Academy Awards Betting by HHA

The newest trend among gamblers and bookies is to bet on the Academy Awards. The market for these bets is growing stronger fast, and that's because wagering in the Oscars is exciting. This year, the ceremony will take place on March 7th, at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

One of the funniest parts in wagering in the Oscars is looking for the best odds. Since working out the lines for every category is a little complicated for every bookmarker, the odds tend to vary drastically from book to book. Despite this, there are several awards with strong favorites, and the decision to add 5 more slots to the best picture nominations makes the prediction of the outcomes to this award just more challenging.

This year, the award for best picture has 2 strong favorites among all nominees: Hurt Locker and Avatar. For the category of best actor, the 2 favorites come very close in terms of odds: George Clooney and Jeff Bridges. The best picture award is a very tough prediction since both movies seem to get a lot of attention form the jury. Likewise, the 2 aspirers to the best director award are head to head in the race: James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow.

Keep in mind that starting in 1998, when Shakespeare in Love won an Oscar, comedies have not been a good selection to bet for best picture given that none has won one since. Science fiction/adventure/action/epic movies don't usually have the favor of the critics; the last one to win an Oscar was The Return of the King in 2003. Although Chicago won in 2003, musicals don't generally perform well at the awards. Some of these arguments could apply to Avatar, but this film has momentum; it is a very popular movie right now and has become the most successful film of all time.

For best Actress, the fight is between Meryl Streep ('Julie & Julia') and Sandra Bullock ('The Blind Side'); Sandra Bullock's nomination is making big fuzz among people, since she is a comedian making drama and getting a nomination. Streep, on the other hand, hasn't won an Oscar in her career of 26 years, despite having been nominated 16 times.
