Is the MLB Losing its Spice? by MK

Do you think that the MLB losing its spice? it may require some kind of TV scandal to be attractive again? With the NFL season and the NBA getting their own right now, the attention to the big leagues has been diminishing with the pass of the days. What could be big hit on MLB to bring back the attention that gave it the title of the "Sport of the Nation"?

Lets face it, the lockout of the NFL took everybody attention; many of us got worried, some by facts as simple like "I'm going to miss NFL this year, oh right!; I'll give it a try to NASCAR" but for some others, it's a matter of life, I mean that there is some people that depends of these games to get a hot meal on their tables at home. Luckily the Lockout finished, but at the same time we saw how NBA just fell in the same drama. So the media and everyone are with the pending eye divided between NFL and NBA that feels like if the MLB was just fading.

For some people it's because of the lack of controversy or the need of something really shocking that usually the other major sports show to all of us, the fans. But it is really necessary that the cause to bring back the attention should be something negative? Or it could be something positive?

We know Derek Jeter made his 3000 hit... that should be something! a few months ago I wrote that this could be a major event on MLB history... however I didn't notice any kind of explosive party or celebration besides the moment at the stadium when the hit was made. Its true, is not the first one to do it; but is the first Yankee to do it, that must count for something, or not? Oh yeah, and he stars in an HBO movie.

The Phillies are getting one of the best pitching rotations this year and in the history of the MLB and even with the lots of attention centered on Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee every five days and how great their game performance is, that's all what we seen on the headlines. Not even the case of Alex Rodriguez and his poker escapades wasn't noisy enough either. Thought I believe he can play poker wherever he wants, without making a storm of such small puddle.

Maybe the MLB need something stronger, something to revive that spirit of the old times when every home run and every out went right through our hearts and make us scream filled with excitement or rage. Maybe if this beloved sport became more entertainment again and not just another business based on sport franchises. I wonder if at the end of this new season, the MLB will get their own lockout; too so they can attract the attention of the fans again when they miss their baseball games.
